Enfuego to Cleveland Rumors False; Enfuego to Turn Up the Heat North of the Border?

Contrary to previous reports that Atlanta Enfuego owner, sonenlaw, was considering moving the franchise to Cleveland, new information has come forward that the destination in mind could be north of the border, in Winnipeg.

An unnamed source indicates that a weathly Canadian fur trader, Guy LeBeoufDeChat, is interested in purchasing a minority share in the team, with the stipulation that sonenlaw is willing to move the team AND change its name. The new name: the Winnipeg Northern Crapweasels.

The crapweasel is a protected and yet elusive native to Lower Middle Canada and LeBeoufDeChat has been an outspoken advocate for the animal.

Atlanta fans already up in arms over the team's blantant mismanagement, have mixed feelings about the potential move. One fan fumed: "That new team would be appropriate for Mr. Sonenlaw -- the crapweasel is well known for covering itself in its own excrement to protect against would-be predators. That's pretty much what he did to our team... I mean who would take over that heap of sh*t at this point?"

Other fans are not quite as negative: "Whatever gets sonenlaw out of the Hotlanta is fine with us fans. We'll get another franchise hopefully in the future... but I'd rather watch old Vick highlights than take my son to another Enfuego game. If I had the chance to call sonenlaw a crapweasal for the rest of my life, you can count me in."

Wildlife experts are also in favor of the move. Terry Irwin, wife of the infamous crocodile hunter chimed in: "The crapweasel needs as much exposure as possible... this would be a great day for not only the crapweasel, but also its cousin the Fecal Ferret. It seems Mr. sonenlaw does great service by imitating the crapweasel with his treatment of the franchise. While the crapweasel prefers to roll around in its own offal, sonenlaw also surrounds himself with complete and utter reeking crap - just look at his team.

Undisclosed Batting Eye Injury puts Sioux Falls, Moriarity at Odds

Rumors have swirled for weeks concerning the health of Monterrey Conquistador 1B/DH, Chance Moriarity - mostly due to his paltry performace at the plate after Sioux Falls traded him to Monterrey. Rumor became fact on Tuesday as Moriarity finally came clean about Sioux Falls not disclosing his injury before the trade.

"It's true," stated Moriarity, "I have a gambling problem." Apprently, Moriarity was afflicted with, what is described as, a lingering eye strain injury caused by spending all his free time seeing flops at the Native American Casinos around Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls manager "The J" refused to comment, further indicating foul play was indeed intended with the injury management "error". One Dakota player refusing to give his name, stated: " Coach said: 'We've won one championship... to have staying power we need to model ourselves after other consistent winners, like the Patriots.' "

Monterrey Assistant General Manager for Personnel, Vasco de Gama, would not speak at length, but said: "If they want to act like the Patriots, treat them as such - take away a draft pick. We lost pitcher Dave Clark last year to playing too much Wii tennis, but you didn't see us hide the injury."

The rumors began several weeks ago and leading them were Moriarity's WELL below average statistics in Season 8, particularly after his trade from Sioux Falls to Monterrey. The 'Quistas relatively small park is well known for being hitter friendly, unlike the Dakota's pitching friendly park. Most press assumed Moriarity was in for an excellent second half to his season as a result. Moriarity averaged .290 at the plate and an OPS of .870 before coming into season 8. Since the trade with Monterrey, Chance's Average dropped to a putrid .247 with an OPS of .782

The Commish (also "The J") had a statement prepared (he had it ready the second this story came to light): "We have looked into the Moriarity trade scenario. Given the situation in Atlanta right now (near fan riot), we cannot take any action."

Owner threatens move, fans don't care

sonenlaw, owner of the Atlanta InFuego (5-95) threatened to move the team to Cleveland if fans didn't start showing up. Both fans in attendance at last nights game were asked about the threat. Both said they only took the tickets because they were promised a free hot dog, which was never delivered. When asked to comment, the mayor of Atlanta denied that the InFuego even played in the city.

Attempts to reach the sonenlaw were unsuccessful. However, team president, Rachael Phelps, best known for owning the Cleveland Indians team that won a one-game playoff with the hated New York Yankees had this to say: "I don't know where people get these ideas in their head. Just because Willie Mays-Hayes claims I wanted the team to lose doesn't make it true. He didn't even have the stones to show up for the sequel."

When asked whether Atlanta was implementing a similar strategy in an attempt to force a move, Phelps was non-committal, "I don't know what the hell the owner is doing. Can any of you figure it out?"

Meanwhile, Mexico City owner dyuen denied reports that nude cutout of Phelps was being displayed in the Bandejos clubhouse, with clothing being removed one win at a time.

Mid-Season Outlook

As we approach the All-Star break we take a look at the scene and identify the current playoff contenders.

If the season ended today, the playoffs would look like this:
NL
#1 Mexico City Bandejos 57-29
#2 Las Vegas Double Downs 56-30
#3 Sioux Falls Dakota 56-30 (lose tie breaker)
#4 Burlington Bulldogs 48-38
#5 Cheyenne Seminoles 53-33
#6 Nashville Harmonies 51-35

Outside looking in: San Juan (49-37), Helena (45-41), Toledo (43-43), Pawtuckett (42-44), Los Angeles (42-44)

The lead story here is the very real possibility that the San Juan Crownrificos could miss the playoffs. The 'Rifs have failed to win the division only once (last year) when they took the top wild-card spot. They've never won fewer than 107 games but are currently on pace to finish 92-70. Team owner and noted Lou Holtz imitator wang35 has already sounded the alarm declaring San Juan's glory days over and actively looking to shake the aging empire up with a big trade.

The other story is the emergence of new contenders. Cheyenne has flirted with the NL West lead all season Helena, Toledo, and Los Angeles all making noise about a playoff run. The 3-way fight for the #1 seed promises to keep even the top teams pushing hard all season and nobody is underestimating Burlington after their stunning elimination of both Evil Empires, San Juan and Mexico City last season.

AL
#1 Salem Grand Salamies 57-29
#2 Monterrey Conquistadors 56-30
#3 Richmond Confederates 55-31
#4 Cincinnati Great Americans 53-33
#5 Rochester Rockets 52-34
#6 Texas Riders 49-37

Outside looking in: Wichita (45-41), Houston (45-41), Colorado (43-43), and Scranton (39-47)

The top story here might be a Houston franchise that's missed the playoffs only once, in season 2. The Heavy Hitters are in a big fight for the wildcard as usual suspects, Monterrey, Salem, Richmond and Rochester continue their impressive runs.

BUT, the Cincinnati Great Americans, under new owner cincredlegs have shocked the Second City world with a 53-33 start that has them poised to make the franchise's first-ever playoff appearance. Nobody plays better on the road where the GA's have gone 30-13 so far.

The AL race is as exciting as ever with 5 teams bunched within 5 games of the #1 seed and 4 others within 6 for the final wild card spot. Pennant-race dealing, rookie call-ups, and injuries figure to play a key roll in a league that appears up-for-grabs as we approach mid-season.

The Nashville Harmonies broke the bank in signing first-round draft pick B.J. Greene. Greene, a pitcher out of Rutgers selected with the 15th overall pick, inked a deal with a $10,075,000 signing bonus. Only one draftee has signed for more money in the history of Second City. In season 4, Cincinnati signed #5 overall pick, 2B Manny Corey, to a $16M deal. Corey debuted last season, winning the AL 2B Silver Slugger after hitting .276 with 26 HRs and 109 RBIs. He also stole 66 bases.

Greene, 6'2 right-hander features a heavy slider and solid curveball which he used to go 13-2 for Rutgers in the Big East. Harmonie scouting director Lil E' said, "we know $10M is a lot of dough, but this is a polished college pitcher. We see him moving quickly, possibly contributing to the Harmonie rotation in the next 2 years."

Greene, who represented himself in negotiations, said a childhood spent playing cards with his older brother helped his poker face. "Would I have signed for less? Who's to say? All I know is that I didn't. Ray Rice only wishes he could ink this kind of deal."
