With those two statements, made within three minutes of each other, our beloved Oklahoma City re-entered major league baseball. When the Fire Hawks relocated to our city, their draft history was five consecutive years of pitchers being the number one pick. So why, with a new city to call home, did they draft middle infield.
"With our scouting, we were taking a look at the fact that our ML roster average age is 27.5 years, and our middle infield is 29.2 years old. We looked at these two as they played in the national AAU tourney and realized that they could become our foundation for many years to come.", said GM Reigny.
Sources inside the club expects them to be assigned to AA and if they progress as believed, they might even be September call ups.

NKOtB (kindof): Oklahoma City Fire Hawks

What happened? Five years of the Fire Hawks in Sante Fe have yet to produce a team that's lost fewer than 102 games. With attendance declining each year, team owner reigny sought lease concessions and a stadium upgrade from the city. When Sante Fe Mayor David Cross laughed reigny out of city hall, he appealed to a higher authority, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson met with reigny, the result was similarly comical. Richardson, a huge Arizona Isotopes of Albuquerque fan it seems, was unaware that there was a franchise in Sante Fe. He was floored that there was a 2nd franchise in the state and immediately refused reigny. When later informed that the Isotopes had left the state years ago, Richardson was heartbroken. He's now formally stated an interest in bringing another franchise back to New Mexico. Also, he'd like to not be elected president again.

Upon returning to the team offices, reigny was notified that the city had formally filed papers to alter the team's lease as was allowed under the contract. Apparently, the falling attendance had also led to a decrease in the number of part-time workers at the stadium. When the number dropped below a lease covenant with the city, Sante Fe was able to unilaterally force the team to triple it's rent payment.

reigny quickly canceled the team's lease and looked for other accommodations.


The Fallout: Oklahoma City, still stinging from the one-and-done season the Salt Lake City Salty Sardines had in season 10, hastily offered a new lease. The Fire Hawks decided to keep the team name intact as vast stores of Fire Hawk merchandise remain unsold. But at least the state of Oklahoma now has a "major league" franchise.

Silly Rabbit, Trix is for Communists

The Oklahoma City Bombers used the 2nd pick in the Rule 5 draft to acquire Jose Suarez from the Washington D.C. Honor and Courage. Jose's older brother Livan Suarez is the Bombers top hitter, coming off back-to-back 50+ HR seasons.

The story of the Suarez brothers is a complicated one. The players' father, Luis Suarez recently resigned as head coach of the Ecuadorean national soccer team. Luis was born in Columbia. Fearful for her life with her husband coaching a national soccer team, the boys mother Sonya moved the duo to California. When her job as the voice of the Trix silly rabbit required her to move to Minnesota, she left Livan behind in California, where he completed high school while living with a cousin that plays soccer professionally. Jose never really liked Livan or soccer, calling the sport "a Communist game played by nationalistic pigs." The boys have rarely spoken since.

Jose followed his mother to Minnesota, finishing school in Edina, MN. Jose was crushed when his audition to play the voices of one of the kids in a Trix commercial was cancelled. He threw him self into baseball, and now he'll get a shot to play for the Bombers.

When told that Jose would be coming to Oklahoma City, Livan said, "if he starts talking smack about soccer, we're gonna have words again." Jose is certain that noone in Oklahoma City has ever seen a soccer ball and pledges that it won't be an issue.
